Brakes problem
1998 Chevy Cavalier 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 300000 kms

Hi -- I drive a 98 cavalier -- in the last couple days i've noticed when driving a slight knocking sound or rubbing kind of sound -- sounds almost as if a brake pad is loose and the wheel is hitting it as it's going around -- the sound is not as clear when driving but when I take my foot off the accelerator the sound is very clear and the sound speeds up as I accelerate the speed of the car -- sounds like a smacking kind of noise -- i've also noticed the sound will be much louder if the wheel is turned ever so slightly but if it is kept straight you can almost not hear it at all-- what could this be? is it possible that a brake pad is loose ??

hi:) thank you for your response

I took the car to a shop yesterday -- they thought could be bearing as well but the noise is not a humming -- anyhow they checked the bearing and it's fine -- they thought could possibly be the axle -- they took the tire off and switched it with the rear tire and the sound has stopped -- I can still feel it a little bit but can't hear it -- if the sound returns is it possible my axle could be going???
