Air Conditioning problem
1997 Chevy Cavalier Automatic

i am wanting to buy a 1997 chevy cavalier. i like it alot, especially the price! the problem is that it will not blow any air (hot or cold) out. i can hear the compressor turn on when i switch it on, but it won't blow any air at all.

the owner says it was working, but like around 3 days ago, the check engine light came on. they didnt realize the ac/ heater wasnt working till i tried it out today. we live in south texas, so we need the ac and lately its been cold so i definetly need the heater.

please let me know what the problem might be and about how much it would cost to get it fixed!!!!

Hello –

To better assist you please let me know if the car model is a LS, RS, or Z24. Also the engine size in liter and the miles on the car.

If I understand your question – you select the fan blower speed and there is nothing…….for heat or AC? No blower air from the vents, top dash, floor nothing…..no sound at all?

It may be based off of what you are saying the blower motor………….please give the above info and I can better give you a price.

As for the check engine light, I would drive the car to Auto Zone (AZ) or O’Reilly’s (OR) and for FREE they can pull the codes to the car. Most important: Once they check your codes, if they find something and you don’t get it fixed and need to get back with us, please make sure you tell us exactly what the code was, number and all. Example, if the code was E0568 O2 Sensor bad. Then make sure you give us all of that. While there for FREE also they can bring their tester out and check your battery and alternator.

This will definite let you know what the codes are and then I can give you a rough idea on that too. They shouldn’t mind you pulling the codes to see what the problem is.
