Engine Cooling problem
1997 Chevy Cavalier 4 cyl Automatic

our enginn is over heathing, and we looked at the fan and its hard wired to the other red wire that my brother inlaw says is the engine wire or something, and the fan turns on when that car turns on so were not too sure whats going on any ideas?

Previous owner obviously had overheating issues and tried to compensate for it by wiring cooling fan to turn on with engine. This is usually done when the vehicle's head gasket or head has failed and the owner doesn't want (or can't) pay out to have it fixed.

Did you have the entire engine assembly replaced or just the block?

Was this issue the reason for replacing the engine? If not, was it overheating prior to the engine swap?
