My car is misfiring.Ive had problems with the coil packs twice before. Its runs smoother sometimes but it only gets about a quarter throttle and then it cuts out. I have a oil leak on the timing chain cover also.Is there any minor tests or sensors I can check.

96 Chevy Cavalier 2.4 L does it have a nox sensor? The code scanner says the nox # was jumping around at an idle and even with the engine off but ignition on.

Engine running rough or misfiring can be cause by the following:
1.Defective spark plug.
2.Inadequate spark/coil,defective spark plug wire.
3.Lack of compression
4.False air leakage.
5.Faulty fuel injectors.
6.Insufficient fuel pressure.
7.Contaminated fuel.
8.EGR valve that is leaking.
9.Oxygen sensors.

If you are refering this nox # as the knock sensor it has one its job is to retard ignition timing when it senses detonation/pinging/vibration, Its located on rear side of cylinder block.

Also check the CPS as suggested
