Engine Cooling problem
1996 Chevy Cavalier 6 cyl Automatic 87.000 miles

A COUPLE YEARS AGO MY COOLANT LIGHT WOULD GO ON WHEN I WENT UP THE HILL. WE ADDED COOLANT AND IT WENT AWAY. SEVERAL MONTHS LATER, IN COOLER WEATHER, IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND WE ADDED COOLANT. THE DWELL WAS FILLED BUT THE LIGHT WOULD FLICKER ON AND OFF WHEN GOING UP A HILL. I TOOK IT TO BE CHECKED AND THEY FOUND COOLANT LEAKING AROUND A SEAL ON THE ENGINE. AFTER $800 OF REPAIRS IT QUIT LEAKING AND WAS FINE FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS. AGAIN THE LIGHT FLICKERED ON . THE MECHANICS PRESSURE CHECKED IT AND IT WASN'T LEAKING. THE COOLANT LIGHT CONTINUES TO FLICKER ON AND OFF UNLESS WE ADD A BIT OF COOLANT. CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHERE ELSE IT IS LEAKING. THE TEMPERATURE NEVER CHANGES OR GETS HOT. NOTHING ONTHE GROUND. ANY IDEAS? THANKS.

hi billymac here .well if you are loseing coolant there has to be a leak.if the mechanics could not find it with a pressure test then possibly it is leaking somewhere the pressure test would not reveal. only two places this is possible #1 the overflow tank and hose..#2 the radiator cap seal.most likely these are the culprit or a very small leak in the heater core in which case you would occasionally smell antifreeze inside your car.. hope this helps billymac
