My starter has been acting up for a couple of weeks now since I bought my new to me Cavalier. It will click only sometimes and the starter will not engage. Other times it will start right up with no problem. Now it doesn't click at all so I have no way to start the car but to bump start it. Thank God its a standard tranny otherwise I would have had to shell out money for a tow truck several times now. My friend Sean says that I can repair the starter by just taking the starter off the car then by cleaning the commutator it should work again. That sounds way too easy. Any thoughts from any backyard mechanics out there. Also I would like to know if its very hard to get the starter out of that particular car. I have had tons of other cars but this is the first time I have had a cavalier.
