Engine Performance problem

I am trying to install a fuel cell in my chevy cavalier that is a race car. The cell have been installed correctly but it seems like the engine is not getting enough gas to keep the engine running. It will idle for about 20 seconds and then die and it takes about 2 minutes of constant cranking before the engine starts.
