1991 Chevy Cavalier 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 125K miles

last night the battery light on my Cavalier came on suddenly, and the power steering quit working.I suspect I dropped a belt, but would like to know for sure.

Hello, If you think it is a belt problem, raise the hood and look. Did the vehicle die, when the problem occurred?

Belt is still there. But unbeliveiably loose. The alternator turns without moving the belt at all. Something apparently shifted or broke loose and allowed the belt to loosen up.

There should be a belt tensioner on there, check it.
