1996 Chevy Caprice V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

can pcm be reprogrammed while removed from vehicle, does a new pcm need to be calibrated before installtion or even calibrated at all.ignition module checks out ok. haynes manual points to pcm and thus a dealer to reprogram.......i would like to stay away from them.

pcm's can be calibrated in or out of the vehicle. You just need the proper program to do it and usually it'a at a dealer. Before doing this however, check to see if there are any codes that point to something else. any auto parts store can do this if you can get the car there. Also just beccause a manual says that is the problem may not be so. are all theconnectors connected? is power going to the pcm? check that stuff first. Or take it to a pro that will have other resources to check to fix your car
