1994 Chevy Caprice pinion gear shaft

1994 Chevy Caprice V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I removed the lock bolt, however I can not get the pinion shaft out. I tapped it out about a half an inch with an air chisel with a blunt end on it but it will not come out easily at all. What do I need to do.

These sometimes have to be cut out. But try moving the carrier to a different position and try moving it from there. Also the bolt shoul d be about an inch or so long and did all of it come out, as they break a lot of times and cause what you are experiencing. Someitmes you have to break the carried to get the pin out.
