1986 Chevy Caprice acceleration power

Engine Performance problem
1986 Chevy Caprice V8 Automatic

My caprice motor runs fine, but it doesn't put out the power like it should. What could it be? I mean when I get press the acclerator it's kind of sluggish. What all could I do to try to get more performance power from my engine?

unless it is an SS you are dealing with a 305 and they werent exactly know for big HP. You can try aftermarket exhaust (smog legal) fresh air intake systems (smog legal) underdrive pulleys, maybe even a litte more gear in the rear end depending on where you drive it, lower gear for the street ( 373's or so) will make it a little quicker.Depending on where you live and your smog laws, there isnt too much you can do to it internally
