when i shift into drive the engine rpms go up as if its about to change gears...only it doesnt..it just hangs at a high rpms and doesnt accelerate further...
this was not a problem before i rebuilt the engine..the transmission was perfect....i think i didnt connect a vacuum line back where it was supposed to go...what could be causing it not to change into second...its a 3 speed automatic...[img:5f1949fd7d]http://www.2carpros.com/forum/automotive_pictures/256417_l_54372527307e13d8494f2313960ec3c8_1.jpg[/img:5f1949fd7d]

You ar correct look for metal tube comming up from trans. at firewall. See if hose is attached. If so go to rear of tranny metal tube should attach to shift mod. by rubber hose. Verify vac attach and shift away.
If you find all hooked up and vac then vac mod bad.

i drove the car really far today...it seems it will indeed go into second..as well as third...but it only goes into second when the rpms go really high....as in a very high speed....and then it will also go into 3rd...at around 85-90 mph.....then...if i drop it down into low 1st then accelerate i can shift up into low 2nd...then into drive..and when i shift into drive...it feels like 3rd gear...and the rpms are around where they should be for 3rd at a reasonable speed...this is not right im thinking....I didn't do anything at all to the transmission...someone told me maybe the kickback cable should be adjusted....?
