I have a 1991 Chevrolet S-10 blazer that I just replaced the starter on. (235,000K, 4.3L V6).

After reconnecting the wires and bolting it in place the starter now only spins and does not crank the engine. Is it common or possible that I got a defective starter from the shop, or have I possibly done something wrong?

GM's have shims, sometimes! take it out and check against the block for maybe too many shims! Or not enough...anything fall out when you removed the old one?

Thanks Merlin,

I actually figured that exact problem out a couple hours after I posted the question. There was no shim in there when I removed the old one, but a shim came with the new one. I figured that if there was a part in the box there was a reason for it. In this case, there was no need. I took the shim out and she fires up great.

I appreciate the response, I will be back to the site if I have any other problems

Dave
