I had turned it on and it ran for about ten to fifteen minutes then sparks flew out from the area right around my alternator and the engine stopped now it wont even turn over when I turn the key. The dash panel was working but now it stays dark, my head lights work and so do my interior lights but not the dash.I dont know the actual mileage of the truck but it has a 4.3 liter fuel injected V6 and its 4-wheel drive the reason for me not knowing the mileage is until reciently it did not have a dash panel it was one of those digital ones and I just put one in. Please help.

Have teh alternator tested. Also check for bare wires that could have touched and blew a fuse. What all turns on in your car? And what does not?

Turn on the headlights and then try and start the car. If the lights dim then the ignition switch and relay is good but the coil and starter could be bad. Also put vehicle in neutral will it start then? If not then it could be a bad neutral safety switch. And the pinnion could be stuck in the flywheel preventing the starter form cranking.

No what im trying to see is if the headlights dim when the key is turned into the start position where it normally cranks. That way I can find out if when its turned there it is taking juice from the battery to the starter. If they dim then that means the ignition relay is good and you should look at the starter for the problem. If they dont dim then you should check the ignition relay and ignition coil. If those check out good then check the starter and check the wires and see if they are all connected.

Ok I tried what you said and the ignition was not getting any power so I took off my air filter to see if I could see the wires behind the alternator and I found out that the wire to the ignition was broken I guess that the sparks I saw was the wire finally breaking and grounding out when it touched something so now all I need to figure out is why the wire was getting so much current that it melted and broke and if I replace the wire will it solve the problem? You have been so much help so far, do you have any ideas?

Should fix the problem the wire probably was rubbed bare and shorted out causing it to melt. THat is why the wires are placed in plastic casing to prevent them from rubbing but it probably fell off. Replace it and see what happens. If it happens again repost on here and well go over the possible causes.
