2003 Chevy Blazer temp gage light comes on and car runs hot

we put a thermostat in car and it keeps running hot and its not indicating blown head gasket or water pump. we are trying to find temp sensor. where could it be located

Is the cooling fan running? In the picture, note the engine size and vin. Driverside cylinder head, toward the rear. Blazer coolant temp sensor.
