From cap on top of intake (has 2 vacume lines one to map sensor other to valve cover) every now and then on start up a loud pop and white smoke comes from cap being blown off. Engine will not run because vacume leak. Cap will snap back on. Engine will crank and run great afterwards. I was told it was the fuel injetor system (spider) or the fuel pressure regulator valve.

Check fuel pressure regulator by removing vacuum line to it. If gas is present then the FPR has a ruptured diaphram and would need to be replaced.

The popping back into intake, could be an injector, but could also be an ignition timing issue.

Check/clean electrical connections to cam/crank sensor, make sure plug wires are intact and not burnt.

Check condition of cap and rotor, and dist. Hold down bolt is not loose.

Is this 4.3 engine?
