I have a 2001 Chevy Blazer with 198,000 miles. It failed NJ inspection because the Service Engine Soon lamp does not light. A dealer told me to remove the instrument cluster to replace the bulb. I took the dash apart and removed the cluster. the SES bulb is actually an LED. how do I test it and/or replace it? Could it

First use a test light or meter to see if the Brown/White wire in slot 2 on the instrument cluster plug gets power with the key on. That way you know for sure the PCM/VCM are trying to light it. Other thab that, you might have to get a reman cluster, some things arent serviceable.

Hi Jack,

Thank you for your help and a Happy New Year! I finally got the opportunity to take the dash apart again today and test the brown and white wire. I get no power when the key is powered on. What is my next step?

Need to do a continuity check from the plug to the PCM on the brown/white wire. If it is good from dash to PCM then you may need a new PCM or try having it reflashed by a shop that has the right equipment or the dealer

Thanks again. I located the PCM and the correct harness/wire. I do have continuity to the dash. Before I by a new PCM, is there a way to re-boot it, or whatever? What does 're-flash' mean and is that what I ask the shop? Also, what voltage are the led's on the instrument cluster so I can test them without burning them out and in case I need to replace that too?

I forgot to mention that when I plug the cluster into the harness and force current through the wire, the led does not light with the key in.

Might have 2 problems then. Possible the PCM took out the LED. Ask them if they can "flash" the PCM
