My 2000 Blazer engine turns off randomly when I am driving. It has happened while idling at stop lights, and while driving 65 on the interstate.

There is no engine noise, no slobbering, no sputtering. It just turns off. Most of the time I can restart it, sometimes it has to sit for awhile before it will restart. The check engine light does not come on, just the battery light after it is dead.

When the problem was starting it felt like the engine would lose power then kick back on (hesitating?). It did this for about 200 miles, then it started dying.

The truck had it's fuse box replaced about a year ago, and a new fuel pump about 12,00 miles ago.

I've had it to two repair shops and a Chevy dealership. All say that the computer is not returning any codes to give them a clue what is up. The Chevy dealership tested the fuel pump, and an air sensor--said they were good. Finally they replaced the ignition system, and the truck ran great for 1 month (about 1,500 miles).

Then it abruptly started the same thing all over again. I'm taking it back in this week, and don't want to throw more good money at this thing if it's not going to get fixed.

Any help appreciated, thanks.

Generally when an engine stops when hot and starts when cool, you have a bad ignition module.

If, when it shuts off, you lose all power (radio, wipers etc.), then I would suspect the ignition switch.

The engine turns off when hot and cold, it's random. No problem with power.

The shop changed the coil and some other switch in the ignition system and put in a new alternator (because mine was going bad? I had a new one put in two years ago), told me it was fixed. The gas mileage was horrible, when I stopped at a stop light the voltage indicator needle bounced a couple times. Surprise surprise, it died again.

Had it towed back. Now they call and tell me they found the problem, a broken wire leading to/from the distributor.

We'll see if that's it. I'm 0 for 5 trips for to the mechanics so far.
