1997 Chevy Blazer Tailgate stuck open

1997 Chevy Blazer 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I opened my tailgate last evening, and when I went to shut it, it won't latch, the glass goor just bounces back, and it looks like the latch isn't doing anything. How can I fix this?

With the tailgate open as if you were going to open it the striker plate may not have unlocked all the way and is in the closed position. While you are opening it you should be able to move the striker back to the open position. When you open it a spring usually help it uunlock. If this is the problem and you are able to get it closed and locked I would lubricate it so it is free.
