1997 Blazer, 153K miles. At different times, on turning corners in either direction the steering will lose power for a few seconds. Seems to be no correlation between speed, direction of turn, sharpness of turn, etc. My mechanic drained the PS system and says that the steering components are OK. Would a steering box going bad cause this? Thanks for your time.

Yes, over a period of time and mileage, the steering sector seals will bypass the power assist capability. There are rebuild kits avilable, but they are difficult to install and have to be done just so. I would consider used or rebuilt to your problem. If you turn the steering wheel all the way to one side and hear the pump bypass, your pump is good. Hope this helps and thank you for your donation, Jim.
