1995 Chevy Beretta Starting issues

Engine Mechanical problem
1995 Chevy Beretta 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 72000 miles

I thought my battery went dead because I went to start it and heard just a click noise. New battery still same replaced the starter and selinoid still same turn the key and the starter engauges but does not turn. The motor to my knowledge is not froze for it will drift forward and reverse in the proper gears. I am at a loss it was running great then all the sudden this. Any Idead I can check before I take it to either a repair shop (body is great) or the junk yard which I wish not to.

Use a pair of jumper cables attach positive to starter terminal, negative to engine block, try to start, if it now starts, one or both of your battery cables is no good. if this fails, try turning motor by hand at the crank pulley. Remove plugs to make it easier.
