1988 Chevy Beretta 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

i have a 1988 chevy beretta 2.0 auto it has 100k on it all original it always started somewhat hard but always started it would crank a few times and kick now it just cranks i replaced the spark plugs and wires and was wondering what elsethe problem could be it seems as though it wants to start it kicks and stops when it stops it blows smoke out of the throttle body when it does it kind of pops when i tried to give it gs while cranking it it sounded as though yu dropped a quarter into a glass of water the oil seems clean could it b the timing it is getting fuel to te rail and when i sprayed starting fluid into the intake it doesnt change

Welcome to the forum. Engine cranking, check for spark at the plugs. If your TBI can you see the injector spray gas? Check for trouble codes.

Yes, it could be a timing issue.
