I JUST BOUGHT A 2003 CHEVY AVALANCE AND WHEN IDOLING OIL PRESSURE IS AT 40. WHEN GIVE IT GAS AND PICK UP SPEED THE PRESSURE INCREASES, SOMETIME TO THE POINT OF REACHING THE MAX ON HTE GUAGE (80) AND DROPS WHEN THE TRUCKS SHIFTS BACK TO ABOUT 40. THE FASTER I GO THE MORE IT GOES UP. IS THIS NORMAL IF NOT WHAT SHOULD I DO?

It could be the oil pressure sending unit which is down by the oil filter. The oil pressure is controlled by the pressure relief valve on the oil pump inside the oil pan. To your knowledge, has the engine had any major work done on it? You can run an "actual oil pressure test" by screwing a gauge directly in place of the OP sending unit and running the motor to see what the gauge says.
