I have a 1998 Chevrolet Astro Van 3.4L. It came to a point where the van would not start. I changed the rotor, the air filter, the spark-plugs, and the ignition coil, the van would not start. I took it to the mechanic, left it there. He said a wire was lose he was not very specific. I took the van home, next morning did not start. I took it back to the mechanic and I found-out that he starts the van by spraying starting fluid in the air intake, he can't find the problem. The fuel pressure is about 60 which I think is ok. I took the van home and the only way I am able to start it is by praying starting-fluid in the air-intake. COULD SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT MAY BE THE PROBLEM.
My e-mail is: estebanv@verizon.net

thank you,

find out what the fuel pressure is with the key on engine off pressure should be between 50 psi and 60 psi or the van will not start. 60 psi running does not always mean pressure is functioning well. The fuel pump could be the problem which your symptoms for Astro's are common.

The next possible cause could be the poppets are clogged which is another common problem for this van.

if fuel pump pressure checks out okay have the fuel injection system inspected.
