All indications, no lights, ignition, etc, are that I need to replace the CTM. The original security system and an aftermarket system have been disabled. I don't need the key for auto-entry. I use a regular key to start and unlock it. If I get a used CTM and install it, will it need to be programmed?

The Central Timer Module (CTM) in your 2004 Dodge Durango is responsible for controlling many of the vehicle's functions, including some related to the alarm system, the power door locks, and interior lighting. When the CTM fails, you can experience a variety of issues with these functions.

If you decide to replace the CTM with a used module, it may or may not need to be programmed. In some cases, a used module may work right away without any programming. However, in other instances, it may need to be programmed to work correctly with your specific vehicle. This largely depends on the specific configuration of your Durango and the specific features of the used CTM.

It's also important to note that not all vehicles allow for used control modules to be reprogrammed, due to anti-theft precautions. This can be a problem if the used CTM you obtain is not a direct match for your vehicle in terms of the programming. In general, it's always a good idea to check with a professional mechanic or a Dodge dealership to understand your specific situation better.

Remember that using used electronic parts can be hit-or-miss, as you may not know the history or reliability of the part. If you're comfortable with this risk, then a used CTM could be a more affordable solution. However, for the most reliable repair, a new CTM would be the best choice if it's within your budget.

Before deciding on replacing the CTM, I'd strongly advise performing a thorough diagnosis to confirm that the CTM is the root cause of your issues, because replacing it can be quite costly. A qualified mechanic can help you with this diagnosis if you're unsure.

The TImer Module is integrated inside the FCM. Check out the images (below). Please let us know how it goes.
