I changed the battery in my key fob and when I started my car it shut off about three seconds later. I tried a few more times giving it more gas and it still continued to shut off within seconds. After so many attempts it quit starting period. I did try unhooking my battery all night and that did nothing. Now I put my key in turn it all the way to on position still no start but dash lights, windows, everything works. And the red light by dash stays on (It is a light that blinks sometimes to let me know the alarm is set I think).
I did turn the key three times to get code P0513 which means Invalid skim key. But it is the same and only key I have. I also am curious, with the new battery in key fob I can lock and unlock doors, set alarm, etc. So why will it not start the engine?

Sincerely, Rose

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros. Com. For some reason, the PCM is no longer recognizing the key fob. It means that the PCM has detected the presence of an immobilizer key that is does not recognize. If you try to start the engine, it will not start because the fuel and ignition systems are disabled by the PCM. I have attached a list of possible causes as well as a flow chart to help identify the problem.

SYMPTOM
P0513-INVALID SKIM KEY

WHEN MONITORED
Ignition on.

SET CONDITION
The PCM detects an invalid SKIM key.

POSSIBLE CAUSES
Incorrect VIN In PCM
Invalid SKREEM Key Not Present
No Communication With SKREEM
No VIN Programmed In The PCM
PCM

I hope they help.

Take care.
Joe
