Drove to store. On way back started engine it starts then stalls.

Battery is okay.

Fuel gauge and power window stopped working.

Told by dealer problem is instrument cluster shorted out. Needs replacement.

Is this common with the MDX?

A few months earlier battery was being drained by the Bluetooth module. It was disconnected and not replaced (too expensive).

Any relation to the new problem?

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

It is not any more common than any other vehicle but this type of failure is common. Clearly the repair is different depending on the vehicle but the start and stall is a sign of the security system cutting the engine off. MDX appears to keep the security key in the cluster which is why it needs to be replaced. Other types of cars require a different module or just a key. However, the start and stall is a common issue.

Clearly I didn't look at the vehicle but I don't see any reason to doubt the diagnosis.

The bluetooth module being disconnected has no relation to this. That module does communicate with the cluster but they are different. However, with it being disconnected, clearly it is eliminated as a possible cause.

Please let me know if you have more questions on this and we can go from there. Thanks
