Camshaft timing

I would like to set camshaft timing with no marking on a pulley. How do I set it?

Hi,

There are no timing marks for the camshafts. Fiat requires the use of a special tool that locks to the rear of the camshafts.

Please keep in mind, this is an interference engine. If timing is off, it can cause internal engine damage.

I attached two pics below. The first shows the camshaft positioning and the second is a pic I found online showing the tool needed.

I hope this helps. See if you can rent the tool. I wouldn't recommend doing it without one.

Thanks, I've got it. It's so interesting because on the picture there's marking but not on the original pulley.

Hi,

At times, I believe they do things like that to make it a little more difficult for people to work on. If you get the tool, it should only fit one way, so you'll know it's right.

When you get it back together, turn the engine by hand several revolutions to make sure there is no internal interference between the pistons and valves. If it stops turning, don't force it.
