My Cadillac STS will not recognize that the car is in park. While it is in park, the message says to put the car in park. When we put it in park or neutral, and hit start, the whole dash goes black. The battery has been tested and it is okay. Please help!! Thanks, Melissa

Does it start? If the dash blanks that indicates low voltage, does the starter click? If the battery tests good, it was tested improperly, has an internal short(battery), or a poor connection.

The car is not starting. It will not even turn over. As soon as the engine start button is pushed, everything goes black. We tried to start it with jumper cables from another vehicle and the same problem occured. Could it be a computer issue?

I would not suspect a computer issue, at this point. How does it react after it goes blank? Is there some clicking under the hood, when it is triied. I still suspect a source voltage or connection problem.

No clicking or sounds. It goes completely dead and everything goes black. We hooked up another battery and it still did the same thing. The voltage on the battery is good.

If the ECM does not see the park, it will not start. There is a position sensor that sends that signal.
