Hi, I have a 1998 STS cadillac. Every so often I noticed that when I would try to start the car it would just click. Just one click everytime I tried to start it. I would mess with putting the car in and out of park a few times and the car would start right up. Now however it wont start at all. The battery seems fine, and everything lights up in the "on" possition. But when I turn the key, all I get is a click. The starter is not turning, or even tring to turn. I have hears that ignation cables need to be replaced around 100k. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

Try cleaning battery terminals. Baking soda /water or wire brush. See if that does it.

Sounds like the park and neutral position switch if you have to play with the shifter-if not could be the relays

The terminals are really clean. The battery has a good charge. When I try to start the car in park or nutral I can hear a click under the hood and in the fuse box that sits under the seat next to the batterie. When I try to start the car is D, or anything other then P/N it makes no noise at all. I know its not supose to, it just makes me think the P/N switch might be OK. Maybe the starter? Where is the P/N switch, and or relays? Thanks for the help.

Get a helper to hold key in the start position-you go and short out the small purple wire on the starter solenoid to the battery terminal-did it crank over?

I can't get to the starter and solenoid. It is under the intake manifold.
