1997 STS Overheating

I have a 1997 STS Seville Northstar V-8 with 75,000 miles on it. It loses over a gallon of antifreeze every day or 2 - no puddles on the ground - no leaks found. When you drive it and maintain speed no more than 55 mph it is fine (until it runs out of antifreeze). If you accelerate to pass or speed up, it immediately overheats but then if you hit the brakes and slow down, it immediately returns to normal temp. Oil is clean. Where is the antifreeze going? Head gasket problem? HELP PLEASE!

Thanks. Laurie

Hello, the 4.6 northstart in infamous for head gasket leaks, but the problem most of the time does not start there, the head bolts pull the threads out of the block which lifts the heads up slightly and because its the weakest point the coolant presure blows a gasket or both and actually burns the coolant it wont leak outside, the repair is very costly and most of the time not worth it, its almost cheaper to go with a reman engine, think this through before you make a move
