Electrical problem
1995 Cadillac El Dorado V8 Front Wheel Drive 65000 miles

I have a new battery which is holding charge fine. Had a starter installed and when I went to pick up the car....it wouldn't start! Mechanic advised he didn't get the cable to starter tight. Ran great for a week and a half and then wouldn't start! Turn key....nothing - hours later started.....then wouldn't start......Service center put in another starter....I advised them that I thought possible the cable from battery to starter is bad.....did not replace it.....two weeks later - car won't start....hours later it starts. I am very scared as this is what it was doing before. I do not want to be somewhere and car won't start. Is it possible that the cable from battery to starter could be bad? What would cause this intermmitent starting problem?

If you have other amenities like lights, dash, and such, I wouldn't think it was a cable. The check would be to see if there is a signal getting to the starter when it won't start. Since this is a 95, it is a Northstar, there is a connector at the front of the rear bank cam cover with a large purple wire included in it. This is the starter signal wire. An easy check is, when it won't start, disconnect this connector and check the harness side for a signal when in crank. You can do this with a simple test light to ground, it should light if there is a signal. MAke sure the test light is functional by touching it to the battery positive before and after testing. I, myself have assumed different results due to a test light that decided not to work correctly.
