1989 Cadillac EL Dorado anti theft reset

Next door neighbor has this caddy and the ignition switch disengages due to the anti theft system. How can we reset this without going to the dealer?

His key has a chip in it
most common is the wiring inside the steering column
1st try clean the key and the ignition cylinder
you may have to bypass the system
by using a second key
or remove the steering wheel and locate the wire short around the cylinder

You can't, you can change the ign switch but it still will have to go to the dealer to have the IP reconfigured, some people have been splicing a resistor in the wires to the ign switch for the theft sys, there orange, thin wires, take an ohm reading done to your key, this will tell you what resistor to buy
