Hello purchased car for verry small amout have all of the servicerecords. Previous owner had rad. Thermostat all hoses replaced plus numerous other repairs done at the same time at the local dealership at a cost over 4800 dollars when the car was returned to the owner it started overheating. Owner was informed tnat a new engine was required this is how I came about buying the car so cheap heres the situation, temp will spike and then cool down until you start pulling a hill it doesn, t matter how steep, engine goes to 265 degrees, coolant level light comes on and you are informed to shut the engine off. Car cools off rapidly .I perfomed a rad leak test and a combustion leak test passed both test. Fans run 5 to 10 s econds at a time, engine runs great , no internal noises help lrac55

Hi there
What I found interesting in your posting is that the fan only runs for about 5 to 10 sec
if the temp is hi those fans should be running none stop on hi speed
check water pump belt
check water pump blades
check those fans when temp goes up the ECM ground the fan relay
you can do head gasket test

Checked belt removed waterpump its new do not understand about head gasket test, I thought the combustion test ( tester hooked to rad while engine is running, watch for rapid pressure increase or rapid fuluations) checked for craced heads or bad head gaskets. Need info on fan, ecm idea dont know where to look thanks lrac55

I would be pissed off if I spent that kinda money and it still did the same thing. If it still runs good replace the head gaskets, should send heads out to be checked for cracks, not a job for home, will have to heil-coil some or all head bolt threads
