1991 Cadillac Deville car not starting

When turning key to start car all th elights come on fuel pump runs, but it wont start not even a little try. It had been acting funny for a couple of weeks then wouldnt start at all. Change the starter still nothing? My key has a computer chip on it could that possible be the proplem? It runs really good catilliac conver is bad but everything else seems to be ok. It has 160,000 miles on it hope its not major Thank You

Hello, if your saying the starter won't crank, check the basics. Make sure the battery has a full charge, the cables/wires clean and tight on both ends.

Have you tried cranking in neutral? The purple wire at the starter solenoid should be hot, with the key in he crank position.

What does your 'security' light do when key is in crank. If it stays on solid, you have a theft problem which is most likely related to the chip in the key. Highest probability at this point, is the ignition cylinder. The leads from the contacts, that read the key resistor, break at the cylinder.
