I am purchasing a 2000 Cadillac Catera from a private seller and there are a couple things on the vehicle I will need to fix for getting it at such a great price considering the mileage. I have to replace the driver side window motor which I have been able to find online fairly easy. I am having trouble finding a small part that I do not know exactly what to call. The drivers side door will not stay open when trying to get in or out. It swings back shut on it's own which is very annoying. He says it's just a "rod" that needs to be replaced to fix it. Just not sure what I should be looking for. Please help and let me know what it is called and if it is something I could pick up at an auto parts store. Thanks!

Commonly known as a door check link. It comes from inside the door and attaches to the pillar. There was a fault on the early Cateras where the sheet metal on the door would fail where the check link was attached. Check at the door end of the link, if it is just a link problem, you should see(or feel) the studs and nuts, and when moving the door in and out they should remain stationary.
