My van has a distinct smell of crayons burning. At first I thought it was from the heater, so I turned it off, next I heated one seat, then tried the passenger side seat. With everything turned off I can still smell it. It becomes very strong after about 15 to 20 minutes of driving, and also noticed a whiny sound coming from the engine. When I roll down the windows I can smell it, and when I get out of the car. The smell burns my nostrils.

You probably got a plastic bag stuck to the hot exhaust. That will smell for a long time.

How can I check for that. It is so bad I can't even stand to drive it. Can a dealer ship remove it! Is there something I can do to make sure that is what is happening. Would that make it whining too

Just look under the truck at the exhaust to find out. The dealer may be able to remove some of it but most of it will have t just burn off.
