Computer problem
1989 Buick Skylark 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

Buick Skylark, 3.3Lt V6 1989
Got high idlespeed and "engine check soon" light flashing, - got told that PCM/ECU should be changed, so I did.
Switched old PROM to new PCM. Installed new PCM. Flashing warning light stopped, get right idle engine speed -- IF I CAN START THE ENGINE that is, and this is seldom the case. If engine is running, it uses exessive amount of fuel, like engine flooding. Car is not driveble. Switched back to old PCM, get high idle engine speed again - car not drivable either.

Any solutions? Salutations from Switzerland - DHarry

If you just changed pcm and it had aprom in it that may be the problem. If your old pcm has a couple of screws on it then open it up and take the prom out. Wear a thin glove to replace it so you don't get static electricity as that will screw it up. Putit in your new pcm then drive the car and see if it fixes things. If not you have a bad wire on a circuit.
