Engine Performance problem
1986 Buick Skylark 6 cyl Automatic 99000 miles

Hello, I recently two weeks ago bought a used 1986 Buick Skylark California Edition the elder lady passed away. She left all papers (everything) she ever had done since the showroom floor in 1986 in the trunk of the car in a bag. She had many mechanics charge her for batteries since 2007 when the problem arised. The car is turning off at red lights, no smoke no rattle, just shuts off and it turns right on, but, as soon as you put it in gear and start to give gas it shuts off again after about 9tries it finally goes but, you have to give it alot of gas to the floor pedal and keep it going over 30mph or it will die when you stop again. The mechanic has been working on it for over a week, they changed the bad fuel injector and that helped alittle but, it is still running lean and it still does the same thing. What might cause this problem so he can fix it. Please? DOES ANYONE HAVE A CLUE? IF so Please let me know. Sorry I don't own any credit cards and I just used my school check to buy the car, wish I could donate. Please will you still help me?

Hi confusednewowner1986, Welcome to 2carpros and TY for the donation

Clean out the idle air control and EGR and PCV valves then test the throttle position and manifold absolute pressure sensor, also test the exhaust system for restriction could be the catalytic converter clogged and fuel pressure to rule out a clogged fuel filter and a failing fuel pump.

I know I already asked this but to update, the mechanic says he tested everything, like ratmatz mentioned, he said, it passes smog and the diognostic test says there is nothing wrong anymore after replacing the fuel injectors and the exhaust manifold. He says that he checked a list of things I can't remember all he said, but, he said, maybe it is the timing? Could the timing be making my car die at red lights and when it does I put the car into Drive and then it dies. Only after it has ran a while.
He test drove it one day total then he test drove it a couple hours today, I picked it up and it ran fine for a couple of hours then it died when I filled up. He is stumped he said, he had to wait till the second to get a special tool to check something with the balance with the piston? Or the timing or something so he can see if it is that. For three years people have tried to fix this car and noone knows what is wrong if anyone can help I would appreciate it I have interviews I am missing because my new car keeps spending all its time in the shop. Or if you know anyone who wants to buy it so I can just buy a new that is exceptable too. But, I don't want to sell someone something that is broke. So either or I appreciate the help. Thanks Terri
