We have been trying to figure out our problems for more than two months. When you start the car it run for about twenty minutes after that it will stop running. Sometimes it will stop running and the start it self back up without me doing anything to it. We change the oxygen sensor and did a lot of small repairs, air filter, changed the oil, new coil packs, thermostat w/ gasket and a few others things. I ran the on board diagnostic system and it displays code 17. Well, I both a new ECM, only to find out that in 1991 the car was made two different styles. One runs with a EGR valve and the other ones do not. The way that you would know is there is a L in my VIN# which means there is no EGR valve. I am not able to use the ECM that I bought but when we took it out everything appeared to be fine as far a wiring and such. I am not sure what else to try with this car and I really don't want it to set to long or all the money that we have already put into it will be a waste.
I can get the car to run and drive but after twenty minutes it stops the RPM seems to start dropping after about ten minutes and you can tell it is gong to quite. If you let it set for about an hour or so it will start right back up and go for another twenty minutes. If there is anything that we can try please let me know.
