I have a 2000 Park Ave with 175k+ miles on it. 3.8 L and she runs like a champ.

The fuel gauge has a mind of its own when the fuel drops below the 1/4 mark; the nearer I get to empty the frequency seems to increase. Sometimes the gauge reads completely full, then will drop to the correct reading somewhere below 1/4. Is there a concern for a future repair, or should I simply fill 'er up when I drop below 1/2 full?

As my understanding, this car we speak of doesnt have a float, its got the sensor and an anti sloush module. Try this,

get a bottle of chevron techron, its about 8 bucks from any auto parts store, pour it in on an close to empty tank and then fill up with a higher grade fuel, this should fix the problem, it has worked many times for me for the cars i worked on as well , and my car did the exact same thing as you, just below 1/4
