Hi there,

This is one of the most often asked questions in any work shop. How much will it cost? And you have every right to ask. The problem is with engine cylinder head work you just don't know the extent of the problem untill the head is removed. Mechanic's don't have x-ray eyes, so we have to dismantle first before we can quote with confidence. If you are worried about a pending repair bill. Ask how many hours to do the job (R&R head) How much for basic parts (Gasket set, oil filter consumables, cleaning, tune, coolant) Basic machining costs to surface head. That will give you an approximate cost, but when the head is removed there may be welding or crack repairs, coolant hoses may need to be replaced, radiator cleaned any number of extras can crop up. A good work shop will ring and advise on additional work required.

I hope that this helps.
