There is a faint smell of gasoline inside car all the time. The previous owners recently installed a fuel pump and filter. Can a faulty installation cause gas odor to leak into car or is it something else?

I also have a faint gas smell in my 98 Lesabre. See if your check engine light is on. If it is on, have someone check for a trouble code. Mine is code 0440 which says there is a problem with the evaporative emission system. I haven't found the cause yet. The smell is stronger in my trunk. If I find the problem I will let you know.
Good Luck

Change the evaporative emissions filter and the smell will disappear. Its a 5 minute job.
