Dash lights come on to indicate that there is a problem with ABS and LOW TRAC. It cuts in and out and I took it to a garage where they indicated that they did an electrical test and a speed sensor is needed on the hub on the passenger side front. Advice was to put in a new hub. Is this reasonable? Also, they indicated $350 Cdn for the part that I thought was outrageous. It appeared that I could get the part myself for about $100. Is it hard to replace myself? Please advise. Can I run the car without in normal conditions?
Thanks.

The cost of auto repair is crazy, but so is the cost and aggrivation of running one. A story for another time. So please understand that there is a large mark up to keep a shop in business. IF they don't, they don't stay in business. Just the nature of the beast.

Pull the wheel, remove the two bolts holding the caliper to the spindle, pull the caliper and rotor off. Remove the spindle nut and drive in the axle shaft.
On reassmebly this nut MUST be torqued to specification.

Remove the electrical harness, remove the 3 bolts that retain the hub to the spindle. If the spindle and hub are seized together, you may wish you didn't attempt this. The bolts will then need to be inserted halway back into the hub and the bolt heads are struck to drive out the hub.
