i was parked at the store and all of a sudden, large smoke from both exhausts noted and car stopped
what are possible problems?
The dealer said it's common on the X5

What color was the smoke and what did it smell like, was it sweet smelling?

smoke was white and there was a burn smell

Sounds like a cracked cylinder head and yes, the dealer is right, this is a common problem for the engines when overheated.
