2004 BMW X3 Recommended oil & Oil change on the x3

2004 BMW X3 6 cyl All Wheel Drive Automatic 70000 miles
What is the recommended oil for this car? The oil filter is not like many I have seen. Are there differences from changing this from a more 'traditional' vehicle (screw on filter)? Is the oil filter located in one of the 'normal' spots?

5W30 synthetic oil is correct and the oil filter is at the top of the motor.
