I have a 2000 bmw 740i. When the weather is hot or warm it starts up good but when the weather changes to cold I turn the key to position 2 and everything seems fine, dash lights up but I also hear a click coming from the glove box and when I turn it to turn the car on nothing happens. When the weather gets hot the only thing I notice is when I turn the key to any position there is a click on the left side by where you turn the headlights on and thats the sign I know it will turn on. Please help.

When did this start? What has been done to correct this issue? Is the battery old?

Hello and thanks for the reply, well it started when I moved from from california to utah in cali weather is hot and humid, when I moved to utah it was june it was fine but now the weather is cold its been 3 days and can't get it to turn on I bought a new battery and nothing. I turn the key to the on position averything lights up then I turn the key to turn on the car and nothing its like it doesn't have a battery but everything else works. Last time when I took it to autozone because my check engine light came they put that reader and gave them a code: p0170 and p1340.

It is possible you have an issue that will require a local BMW tech to take a look at. There is a need for fuel, spark, and compression to make a gasoline internal combustion engine run. If you are not getting these three things then you and I can work together to try and fix it.

Hello again, well I tried to start and wen't under the car to see if it was the starter tried manually with the key on position 2 but it would not start again, and if it was the fuel pump the car would shut off or sputter but as soon it turns on it runs normal even if I shut it off it turns on again. I put the jumper cables and hook it up to my truck and left it charging for about 30 minutes and then it turned on. Now I know if I take it to a bmw dealer they might charge alot of $$ but dont know where else to take it. Where I live there arent alot of options "ogden utah". What would you recomend?
