my brother has a 1997 bmw 740il with 130000 on it and it looks and runs like new and he does not live near by so i can take a look at his car problems. he has this noise in the eng compartment. his mechanic told him the noise is the bearing on the air pump. i called the local bmw parts dept and parts guy said there is no air pump on this car. who is right. i can't find any pump info on line although they do sell air pump rubber mounting brackets.
