Engine Performance problem
1998 BMW 540i V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 100000 miles
MY STOP ENGINE / LOW OIL PRESSURE LIGHT COMES ON AND THERE IS PLENTY OF OIL IN IT. WILL REPLACING THE OIL PUMP SOLVE MY PROBLEM? ALSO THE TIMING SEEMS TO BE OFF IN THREE OF THE EIGHT CYLINDERS. ENGINE SEEMS TO BE RUNNING REALLY ROUGH.

Oil pump inspection is in order straightaway!!!!! There is a bulletin for the oil pump mounting bolts being found in the oil pan, pull the lower oil pan and inspect before you even start it up again. The misfire is an another issue altogether, it aint timing, its a misfire. Coils or plugs or mixture or ? Has the intake manifold ever been off? Has the PCV plate/profile gasket for throttle plate ever been replaced? How about the valley pan gasket? This sounds like a typical failure for a 100k miles 540, dont be alarmed, but get it looked at and let me know.
