1977 BMW 530 Repair Question

1977 530i battery gets hot
I have a 77 BMW 530i the battery has been getting hot with a salfur smell and looses water. I got a new battery and it does the same thing. Help

check the charging system for proper operation.
sounds like the voltage is too high.
if it is over 14.5 volts, replace the brush pack/regulator.
